Die Gegensatzlehre Romano Guardinis
Genese – Grund – Gehalt
Abstract
This study of Romano Guardini's (1885-1968) main philosophical work ‘The polar opposition. Essay for a philosophy of the living concrete’, published in 1925, explores the genesis of his work, its intellectual and existential foundations and the philosophical and theological dialogues he conducted with Max Scheler, Søren Kierkegaard, Friedrich Nietzsche, Thomas Aquinas and Bonaventura, among others. It also opens up a horizon up to the pontificate of Pope Francis, who wrote his doctoral thesis on the doctrine of opposites. Paul Metzlaff worked at the Roman Curia and currently works in the Secretariat of the German Bishops' Conference.
