This collection of articles contains some of the highlights from the conference “Literature didactics and Feelings,” organised by Kristianstad University for the Literature Didactics Network (LDN) in 2021. The articles approach the hows and whys of teaching literature and emotion in school and in higher education. From young readers’ responses to reading and writing short stories, poetry, and fanfiction, to teachers’ struggles and opportunities when it comes to working with emotional responses—and the lack thereof—in the literary classroom, these articles engage with current theories of reception and engagement. The conference proceedings problematise the often dichotomous relationship between “emotion” and “logic” in an attempt to contribute to a nuanced discussion of emotional and cognitive processes in the reading and teaching of literature.
