dc.description.abstractChristian Petter Löwe, a Jewish convert to Lutheranism, published Speculum Religionis Judaicæ (Mirror of the Jewish Religion) in 1732. Jonathan Adams (University of Gothenburg) introduces the background to Löwe’s "mirror" and presents the original Swedish text alongside an annotated English translation. It shows how Christian ethnographical writing about Jewish ceremonies arrived in Sweden long before Judereglementet of 1782.
