dc.description.abstractThis volume brings together annotated editions and interpretations of Early Modern literature about tobacco, beer, wine, and coffee. It includes New Latin and German panegyric poems praising Tokaji wine or beer from Nordhausen, for instance, but also texts opposing the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. The collection thus offers a cultural-historical perspective on current debates surrounding the legalization of intoxicants.
