Many Protestant regional churches have established so-called innovation and testing spaces as part of their strategic church development. They are characterized by the diverse ways in which they allow and encourage deviations from church norms, sometimes even using them for the learning of the entire church system. This volume compiles and discusses the existing empirical research findings and their methodological approaches within the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), as well as in Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. In addition to contributions on innovation and testing spaces in eight (regional) churches, the volume contains a scholarly and comparative overview of questions of learning and their implications for church development.
