About a quarter of children and adolescents in Germany do not meet the minimum standards in reading. This has been confirmed by IGLU and PISA studies for more than twenty years. However, this knowledge has not yet led to any positive change. In this context, Marc Kudlowski identified implementation problems, developed a possible methodological solution, and tested it in practice: Intermedial Partner Reading (IM-PALS). This approach combines paired reading with intermedial reading. What’s new is the use of child-oriented media networks to promote reading fluency and reading motivation. As part of a vignette-based design study, Kudlowski illustrates the development of a student and the method itself. As a result, he also formulates success factors for IM-PALS. His study was awarded the VignA Award in 2024 in the category "Analytical Depth and Coherent Definitions."
