The Disciples of Ioannikiy and Sofroniy Likhudov and the Development of Book Printing in Russia, 1691-1740. The article is devoted to the social portrait of several generations of students of Ioannikios and Sophronios Likhudes at the Slavo-Graeco-Latin Academy and the Moscow Greek School, who worked at the Moscow Printing House (Pechatnyj Dvor). The study of the biographies of the Likhudes brothers’ students made it possible to identify certain patterns in the development of their careers: during their studies, some of the students were enrolled in the staff of the Printing House (later the Synodal Printing House), where they held the positions of readers, book scribes, and typesetters. Then, after completing the studies, the most capable of them were given greater responsibility, and they moved to the positions of editors (spravschiki). The article concludes that behind the biographies and works of several generations of students it is possible to see a single socio-cultural phenomenon that largely determined the development of book culture in the country in the Petrine epoch.
