oapen.abstract.otherlanguageInclusion and diversity are ideals across organized arenas for physical activity during childhood and adolescence, such as kindergarten, school, and organized sports. At the same time, research shows that exclusion and marginalization of different groups of children and young people is a recurring problem. Through 19 chapters written by researchers from various social-science fields and disciplines, Movement Communities in Childhood and Adolescence examines persistent challenges, tensions, and connections across children’s and young people’s arenas for movement. Movement Communities in Childhood and Adolescence offers a broad range of theories, methods, critical perspectives, and reflections that open up new understandings of inclusion and diversity in organized physical activities for children and youth. The chapters discuss issues related to education pathways and sports, but also the role of higher education in educating future educators and coaches. Together, the book makes a unique contribution to thinking holistically and in nuanced ways about political and practical solutions. The book will be an important resource for teachers in kindergarten and school, leaders, coaches, and other professional groups interested in creating inclusive movement communities for children and young people. At the same time, it will be a stimulating source for students and researchers in search of new perspectives on inclusion and diversity.
