| oapen.abstract.otherlanguage | In every human encounter, something ethical is at stake. Teachers, coaches, and supervisors in professional subjects such as physical education, outdoor life, and sports studies in school—or in outdoor life and organized sports in leisure time—regularly face demanding ethical tensions and dilemmas they must address. This anthology, titled Running a Risk—Ethical Reflections on Leading Practice in Physical Education, Sport and Outdoor Life, has a broad academic profile, with researchers from various colleges and universities in Norway contributing their perspectives. There are few publications in Norway that address ethical reflections related to leadership in these practice fields, even though the topic is highly relevant. The anthology contains fourteen chapters with different thematic angles, gathered under three main headings: values-based leadership, views of the body, and inclusion. In the first part, “Daring values-based leadership,” the chapters discuss circus children in earlier Norwegian sports history, football and sustainability principles in physical education, and ethical dilemmas among sports coaches. In the second part, “Daring to trust the body,” the authors explore ethical challenges related to body-near technology in training, body-image issues in physical education, and the value of pedagogically facilitated risk in outdoor life. In the final part, “Daring to include everyone,” the chapters discuss transgender pupils’ experiences in physical education, the use of crossfit-inspired activities in school, the equality principle in organized sports, role conflicts in youth sports, and sports clubs’ handling of finances as a barrier to participation. The chapter contributions draw on different academic and research areas. Some chapters are theoretically oriented, while others are based on empirical studies. The anthology’s target group is higher-education students, colleagues, and researchers in the field. | |
