publisher.peerreviewpolicyAs an independent scholarly publishing house, Droz has been led by scholars from the beginning in 1924 (Dr. Dr. h. c. Eugénie Droz, Dr. h. c. Alain Dufour, Dr. Max Engammare). Publishing at Droz involves choices made by informed experts at each stage of the process. Each proposal or manuscript is read by either the director or a reader to check the basic scholarly framework and to reject inappropriate projects. Droz then undertakes a process of peer review with the director of a series or with external experts (peer reviewer). As other publishing houses do, occasionally and if necessary, we undertake a double-bind peer review process.
In all cases two readers inside and outside the publishing house have read each manuscript, except in the case of certain collections (volumes of the Consistory Records of the Church of Geneva, correspondence of an author published in many volumes over one or two decades… Because these publications have already been accepted, Max Engammare alone reads them carefully, collating if necessary).
Peer review reports are given to a prospective author when his/her project has been accepted, otherwise Droz does not send back comments for refused proposals. We may ask for revisions of a manuscript based on peer review comments or accept it without revisions except for minor corrections (misprints, some missing references…)
Once the peer review process has been concluded satisfactorily, a proposal must be submitted for definitive approval to the editorial board of the press (Comité de lecture), where representatives of three disciplines swiftly review a proposed title to assess its quality and suitability for publication by Droz.*
