Chapter 5 Impacts and Environmental Risks of Oil Spills on Marine Invertebrates, Algae and Seagrass

Keesing, John K.; Gartner, Adam; Westera, Mark; Edgar, Graham J.; Myers, Joanne; Hardman-Mountford, Nick J.; Bailey, Mark (2018)
Marine invertebrates and macrophytes are sensitive to the toxic effects of oil. Depending on the intensity, duration and circumstances of the exposure, they can suffer high levels of initial mortality together with prolonged ...

Chapter 5 Consequences of Anthropogenic Changes in the Sensory Landscape of Marine Animals

Nagelkerken, Ivan; Doney, Scott C.; Munday, Philip L. (2019)
Human activities are altering a wide range of key marine cues at local and global scales, and it is important to know how animals may respond. Species survival and performance depend on the ability of individuals to ...

Chapter 2 Established and Emerging Techniques for Characterising the Formation, Structure and Performance of Calcified Structures under Ocean Acidification

Fitzer, Susan C.; Bin San Chan, Vera; Meng, Yuan; Chandra Rajan, Kanmani; Suzuki, Michio; Not, Christelle; Toyofuku, Takashi; Fal, Laura (2019)
Ocean acidification (OA) is the decline in seawater pH and saturation levels of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) minerals that has led to concerns for calcifying organisms such as corals, oysters and mussels because of the adverse ...

Chapter Advancing and Integrating ‘Biomonitoring 2.0’ with New Molecular Tools for Marine Biodivesity and Ecosystem Assessments

Cheong Aden Ip, Yin; Jin Marc Chang, Jia; Huang, Danwei (2023)
Global declines in biodiversity have become increasingly severe. Traditional monitoring approaches for assessing marine species distributions and abundances are time consuming, costly, and manpower intensive. Fortunately, ...

            Chapter Surving the Anthropocene

Ross, Pauline M.; Scanes, Elliot; Byrne, Maria; Ainsworth, Tracy D.; Donelson, Jennifer M.; Foo, Shawna A.; Hutchings, Pat; Thiyagarajan, Vengatesen; Parker, Laura M. (2023)
If marine organisms are to persist through the Anthropocene, they will need to be resilient, but what is resilience, and can resilience of marine organisms build within a single lifetime or over generations? The aim of ...

Chapter 6 Biology and Ecology of the Globally Significant Kelp Ecklonia radiata

Wernberg, Thomas; Coleman, Melinda A.; Babcock, Russell C.; Bell, Sahira Y.; Bolton, John J.; Connell, Sean D.; Hurd, Catriona L.; Johnson, Craig R.; Marzinelli, Ezequiel M.; Shears, Nick T.; Steinberg, Peter D.; Thomsen, Mads S.; Vanderklift, Mathew A.; Verges, Adriana; Wright, Jeffrey T. (2019)
Ecklonia radiata is one of the most widespread kelps globally, dominating temperate reefs throughout much of Australasia and southeastern Africa. Throughout much of its range, it is the only laminarian kelp and hence ...
