Abstract

Counting on Computers is a compelling exploration of socialist ambitions for a computerised future in the German Democratic Republic. It examines the authoritarian leadership's positive vision of socialist computerisation and its translation into educational policy and curricular change. By uncovering this lesser-known aspect of East German history, the book sheds light on the complex relationship between technology, ideology and education.
