            Abstract
The book originates from a project by ISMEL, Institute for the Memory and Culture of Work, Business and Social Rights. The study looks at architectural, constructive, productive, economic, design, social conditions in the historic motor towns. Turin is compared to Motor Valley, Wolfsburg, Stuttgart, Paris and Boulogne-Billancourt, London and Coventry, Gothenburg, Detroit. The benchmarking uses three main macro-indicators: the regenerative potential, the enhancement of historical heritage, and the promotion of automotive tourism. The author makes her expertise in the technologies of architecture the fulcrum on which to pivot the complex of factors. Rossella Maspoli is professor of Architectural Technology at the Polytechnic of Turin. She develops research in construction history, post-industrial regeneration and public art. Member of the Aipai Board, Ticcih and Sitda, director of Turin Automotive Heritage Network. She is the author of more than 160 publications.
