Countless systems of shorthand have been in use for the past two millennia, but over the past century of scholarship this rich set of writing systems has been given short shrift. This volume serves as the first scholarly introduction to the burgeoning field of shorthand studies, showcasing the breadth of approaches, themes, and questions that stenography provokes across a range of periods, methods, and disciplines.
