This scientific anthology presents new perspectives on the short story genre and its potential for literature didactics. The authors show how short stories can shed light on complex experiences such as power relations, working-class masculinity, colonial structures, bullying, place belonging, and the human relationship to nature. Through reflections on what is left unsaid and the art of suggestion, the book invites reflection on themes such as morality, violations, and children’s fates. The anthology spans from traditional short stories to short-story film, game short stories, and digital narratives, documenting how the genre opens up literary conversations and critical thinking in the classroom. With a solid foundation in literary studies and subject didactics, it provides concrete suggestions for how teachers can use the short story genre in work with interdisciplinary topics and the core elements of Norway’s LK20 curriculum. Short Stories in Teaching is aimed especially at teacher students and teachers, but will also be valuable for students and researchers—and for everyone who reads or mediates literature in schools and libraries.
