Power is not an unfamiliar concept within the welfare field. Nevertheless, discussions about power relations often concern the relationship between professionals and users of welfare services. Less attention is paid to the power embedded in the frameworks for professionals’ practice, as expressed in written documents. Power in Welfare Texts takes a critical look at current governance documents in the welfare field. The contributions analyze texts on topics such as mental health, child welfare, work, school, integration, and environmental protection. Together, they illustrate how power can be expressed in different welfare contexts. In a time when public documents are largely understood as objective, it is more important than ever to uncover and problematize this power. The contributors have long experience from the university and university-college sector. The editors are Halvor Nordby and Bjarne Øvrelid. Both work at the Department of Social Sciences and Guidance at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences.
