PolishAbstract
Consumer protection in the financial services market is currently one of the most important challenges of regulatory and supervisory policy. This results from the growing complexity of financial products, the dynamic development of digital technologies, and the information asymmetry between financial institutions and consumers. As the weakest party in financial transactions, consumers are exposed to the risk of making inadequate financial decisions, often due to a lack of knowledge, incomplete information, or disinformation practices._x000D_ Consumer protection develops on the basis of various theoretical models — from paternalistic approaches, which assume public institutions’ intervention in the market offer, to concepts emphasizing consumer autonomy and individual responsibility. Intermediate positions are occupied by information-based models, which ground protection in the provision of reliable and understandable information._x000D_ This volume of the monograph focuses on issues related to effective consumer protection. In particular, it highlights the role and the need for cooperation among three parties: public institutions creating legal and supervisory frameworks, consumers making decisions with limited knowledge, and financial institutions offering often complex products._x000D_ The aim of this study was to propose an optimal model of consumer protection and to formulate recommendations for the regulatory system in Poland. The monograph combines theory, case analysis, and empirical research, offering a comprehensive and innovative examination of consumer protection in the financial services market.
