Conceived from a shared scholarly and philological perspective, Boccaccio’s Genealogie deorum gentilium and De montibus exhibit thematic overlap, as they often discuss the same geographical and mythological locations. This paper explores how Boccaccio engages with classical sources when dealing with such instances, particularly in relation to the three springs named “Arethusa” and the associated myths. While both texts broadly concur with respect to classical sources, they also disclose notable differences and distinctive features in their respective approaches.
