This scientific anthology presents a range of research works addressing values, attitudes, and competence development in an educational perspective. The book covers a broad spectrum of disciplines, from journalism and intercultural communication to theology, pedagogy, and kindergarten and primary teacher education. Professional practice today is based on knowledge, reflection, and professional values. These values have a moral character and entail a commitment to put the child, pupil, or student—and society’s interests—before one’s own interests. At the same time, society demands that educational quality be improved and that studies prepare individuals for tomorrow’s demands. When values form an intentional basis for action or give direction to action, they become an interpretive foundation in assessments of our professional actions. These actions and reflections are analyzed in the anthology’s 17 chapters, written by 30 contributors from academia with extensive familiarity with the field of practice. The book thus gives readers deeper insight into the connections between values, professional practice, and quality in education, and it will be an important resource for researchers, educators, students, and others interested in this topic.
